Of course we understand that your local beer distributor is dominated by the likes of “Bud”, “Coors”, and good ‘ol “Miller”. However, we would like you to take a second and seriously consider what you are doing next time you stock up. The benefits to drinking one of the big names are obvious. You know what you are getting and you can get a lot of it for a little. That might not be good enough though, when you consider the good stuff that the little guys have to offer.
First of all, craft beer from microbreweries always has more flavor. Always. You take any craft beer and compare it to a major domestic, and you can’t help but notice how watered down that popular name tastes. Because craft beers are packed with so much flavor, they are going to go great with your favorite snack as well. Just like fine wine is paired with a nice steak, craft beer compliments your food in a way that the “King of Beers” just can’t
Secondly, the high alcohol volume. Now before you go jump on your high horse and gallop away from this conversation, we are not talking about how to get drunk quicker. We are merely talking about volume consumed which will equal calories and dollars. If you go out with your buddies and order your normal name-brand, there is a good chance you are looking at consuming 3-5 glasses of beer-flavored water. Whereas one or two pints of the good stuff will taste and feel like plenty. So at the end of the night, craft beer will save you money and a few inches on the beer gut.
The last point we would like to drive home is the experience. By drinking a craft beer you engage in not only a beverage, but an entire movement. Go to your local six-pack store and ask the guy behind the counter what he would recommend. You will find yourself engaged in an enlightening conversation on your likes and dislikes and how that can determine the perfect beer for you. After a while you will start to recognize labels, and then names, and finally the very unique styles that define every microbrewery that has started from the ground up.
